Who the HECK is Bobby?!

Three days ago Cash woke up and insisted that I start calling him “Bobby”.  Later in the day he decided that he should be Little Bobby and he’d call me Big Bobby.

Yesterday Cash decided that Bobby was naughty.

Today Cash asked me if Bobby could come with to the chiropractor.

Just now, as he was playing with a set of tongs, Cash creepily said “Bobby pinches” and started chasing me around the house.

I just wish I knew who Bobby was….

1 in 2.3 million

If I did the math right, that’s the odds of having Acinic Cell Carcinoma. It is 4 times more likely to win $10,000 playing PowerBall, or to hit a Royal Flush in video poker – both of which seem much more enjoyable!
Anyways. It’s been 2 weeks and 1 day since surgery. I’m pretty much back to normal. I still feel some pain in my incision if I lift too much. My jaw is stiff, and my face is sore. I tried to eat a sandwich today, and my floppy lip doesn’t cooperate.
Speaking of, here’s the smile today

I hope I’m never cast in a horror movie, I’d fail

My incision continues to heal well

image

My face still feels like it is recovering from Novocaine, but it itches. It feels so weird.
And now the best part of my surgery – I just noticed today that having my parotid gland removed has really enhanced my cheek bone on that side.

Look how skinny the one side of my face looks! Might have the other side done for fun…..

Did You Miss Me?!

Apparently, I’m not cut out to be a blogger.  I could potentially be the world’s laziest person…or just addicted to Plants vs. Zombies.  It’s hard to say.

Anyway.  I was looking back at pictures on my phone trying to decide where to start blogging…and to see what I’ve been doing.  I somewhat feel like I’ve been trapped in some alternate universe where I have no sense of time.

It turns out that in the last few weeks, I’ve just been hanging out with other people’s kids.  I would never, ever, ever, ever be able to handle running a daycare…but for the few days that my friends need help, I do enjoy having extra little people running around.

This is Cash’s newest friend, Keira.  She is one of the happiest little girls I’ve ever seen…and also one of the busiest!!!  Holy, she kept us busy.  Cash was really good at tattling on her without giving too many details…such as constantly saying “Um, mom, my friend is doing SOMETHING!”.image

This is Cash and his good friend Maddie being super heroes with Slinkies.  image

This is Cash, Maddie and baby Emma all in the tunnel!  So funny.  Cash really loves Emma…so I feel like he may have a potential future girlfriend with that one.image

image

And, of course, Ruby.  Not sure what happened to their shirts…but I was apparently too overwhelmed to put them back on!image

And we can’t forget Rex!  image

I’m sure I’ve done other things since my last post…but this is about all I’ve got today.

If you care, I am going to try to be a bit more consistent with my blogging.  And less lazy.

So, I guess I had cancer….

I had my follow-up appointment with my ENT today. He is happy with my progress. He said my lower lip will get stronger with time.  My smile looks pretty close to normal, image

it’s more noticeable when I make faces

He thinks my incision looks like I take very good care of it, and reassured me that my face won’t fall off when I shower.

My tumor was initially diagnosed as a Warthin’s tumor-based off of the needle biopsy results. After surgery Dr McDonald the ENT said that Dr McDonald the Pathologist (weird, right?) diagnosed the tumor as a Warthin’s tumor, but that it also had some weird cells, possibly an infection. The final pathology was quite a surprise (to me at least)- it showed Acinic Cell Carcinoma, a type of cancer. It’s pretty rare. Like 135 cases a year in the US. I feel like we should all get together and have a party or something.  My Dr told me that if I was going to have cancer, this was a good type to have. (ha ha)  The good news is, the tumor came out intact in my parotid gland, and with good cancer free margins around it. They also tested a lymph node, and it was negative. So, I am considered cancer free! I have to visit pretty frequently for follow ups, and will have another CT in a year to monitor a spot that was noticed in my left parotid gland. I was very relieved to learn that I wouldn’t need radiation. This whole journey has been so weird- leave it to me to have a rare form of cancer, but not know it until I was cured!

Back in the Five Question Friday saddle again….

I was going to Vlog this, but my facial droop is pretty intense today, so I’ll spare you. My mom is on her way down to take care of us this weekend.  I was alone with the kids for 5 hours this morning, and we struggled….. soon we’ll get back in the groove.

Anyways, it’s time for Five Question Friday, hosted by Mama M at Five Crooked Halos.

1. Who mows your grass?

Jeff does. Although, I think he has a picture of me mowing it while 30some weeks pregnant last year. Look, I found it! I was ginormous! image

2. Do you have a picture wall or picture gallery in your house?

We have lived in our house for 10+ years, and I have yet to hang any pictures on our walls.  I’m an interior decorating loser.

3. What book has influenced your thinking the most. Or what blog?

Ummm, kinda striking out on this one too.  I can’t think of a book or blog that has influenced my thinking. But, I’m in the market for a good healthy lifestyle book or blog, if anyone wants to recommend one.

4. Do you have allergies? If so, how do you handle them this time of year?

I am very fortunate not to have seasonal allergies. When I was in high school, I ate a mango for the first time and had an allergic reaction- my tongue swelled up and the inside of my mouth got itchy. The Dr told me it was because I had never been exposed to it before. So, I ate it again, and again, and now I’m not allergic to it anymore.  This was the same Dr who told me I have an extra bone in my ankle, only found in wombats.

5. What’s your go to meal to cook in a hurry?

Taco plates. Some kind of meat (beef or chicken) cooked with taco seasoning, lettuce, beans, rice, cheese, olives, crushed chips, etc. We tend to eat it pretty often.

Well, that was a pretty boring 5QF! I’d better get out of the house soon!

1 week and 1 day

Wow! I can’t believe it has been a week since I got home from the hospital! Overall, I’m feeling pretty good. My facial numbness is about the same, but i think my smile looks better.

I drove myself to Target today! Super exciting!
I see my ENT again on Monday, more news to come….

Day #5

Today was the first day without my parents here, sad. Jeff worked most of the day, and Marisa the babysitter doesn’t quite take care of things as well as mom and dad.

I’m so glad that the total body ache is finally gone. It hurt so bad, I could hardly stand up! The swelling in my neck is improving.image
My lip weakness is about the same. I have a little more feeling in my face, but most of it is still numb. The corner of my eye has different levels of numbness.image

(My hair is clean, i promise! It keeps getting stuck in Bacitracin, so it’s a little icky looking.) I think my incision looks pretty good. I can’t feel anything on the front of my ear. The back of my ear I can feel, and it’s usually pretty sore. It’s weird, because my ear itches, but if I try to itch it, I can hear myself touch it, but not feel it.

It’s so weird not to haul Rex around, can’t wait to be able to lift again. Auntie Lindsay is doing overnight duty tomorrow night, hope it goes ok!

Easter!

In addition to taking care of me, my family and house all week, my parents took our families out for brunch, and made an Easter egg hunt for the kids.

Look how patiently they are waiting! Once they got outside, it was a mad dash for the eggs! There were 12 eggs for each kid, and they were pretty good about sharing.Rex can’t wait for his turn next year.

I’m so glad Mom and Dad made the trip down to run my household! The kids were so sad to see them go.

Day 3

Hooray! My body is feeling less like it was hit by a truck. My face has started swelling more, notice the softball that has taken up residence in my double chin.

image

The swelling has made it harder to chew.
I showered today! Not much I can do with my hair, I keep trying to clip it away from my incision.
Guess it’s time for another nap.
